Medium: Acrylic, Oil
Biography: Suzanne lives in Halifax, NS, and spends the winter months in warmer climates. She is a career educator and has worked as an elementary school teacher, high school teacher, school vice-principal, school principal, community college instructor and teacher/adviser in the faculty of Education at York University and UPEI.
She is founder/ past director of PEI School of Arts and has offered a variety of summer art workshops with professional artists in North Rustico, PEI (2006-2011)
Painting became an interest following her semi-retirement and a move to Prince Edward Island in 2001 thereby challenging the old adage that you “can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. She initially attended regular classes with Henry Purdy, Charlottetown and workshops with several other maritime artists. Since full retirement in 2012, more time has been available to put paint to canvas and to really enjoy the process.
Watercolour and acrylic paint provide the opportunity to experiment, play and to create paintings inspired by her natural environment as well as her travel experiences. Painting with oils is the latest venture for Suzanne, since taking a workshop with Efrin Gonsalves in Mexico, 2012.
Her paintings have been seen at Kensington Art Gallery (Kensington, PEI); Eptec Centre (Summerside, PEI); Ellen Creek Gallery (Charlottetown, PEI); Craig Gallery (Dartmouth, NS); Chase Gallery (Halifax, NS); Galeria Pink Martini (Melaque, Mexico), Maritime art shows, charity functions, and private collections. She is a member of the contemporary Art Society of Nova Scotia, and Dartmouth Visual Arts Society.
