Artist Background
Born in Corner Brook, on the west coast of Newfoundland, Marilyn Whalen developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the mountains, rivers, and forests of the province. She began her artistic journey first as a landscape photographer, then painted in watercolor, and now joyously paints in a variety of styles from impressionistic to abstract in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and ink. Marilyn is a self-taught artist, previous owner the art&jules gallery in Halifax, and an accomplished potter and jeweler. Marilyn teaches watercolor and acrylic painting in her studio.

Marilyn has a long history of involvement in the Arts in Truro. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Truro Art Society.

Marilyn’s work can be found in private and corporate collections across Canada and has been featured in From Land and Sea Nova: Scotia’s Contemporary Landscape Artists. She has won a number of awards for her artwork, including one of which is a painting that is part of the permanent art collection of the County of Colchester.

Marilyn, her husband and their two sons have lived in Truro for the past twenty-five years.
